These practical sessions will cover:

  • Conducting tools for effective communication
  • Effective and fun strategies for developing a healthy choral sound and musical skills
  • Choosing the right repertoire for you and your choir
  • Challenging and inspiring your singers to achieve their potential
  • Developing good vocal and artistic practices
  • Bringing out the musician in you and your singers
  • Enjoying and exploring the Art of choral singing

ABOUT Stephen Leek:

Freelance Australian Composer/Conductor Stephen Leek has long associations with some of the finest and most innovative choirs around the world including Gondwana Voices (Australia), the Tapiola Children’s Choir (Finland), Kamer…Choir (Latvia), The Formosa Singers (Taiwan), and his own choirs, vOiCeArT and The Australian Voices, that he co-founded and conducted for 16 years until 2009. As a conductor, Leek is in demand to work as a guest around the globe and has long established relationships with some of the finest young choirs including Sydney Children’s Choir, Gondwana Voices, the Eltham East Primary School Choir in Melbourne and the Hunter Singers in Newcastle. As a composer, his music is distinctive and in a contemporary style and has broad appeal and is performed by choirs throughout the world. Leek has also been commissioned by some of the leading choral ensembles world-wide. Stephen Leek is often credited as the “founder of Australian choral music” through his composition of over 700 innovative choral works that explore a uniquely “Australian” colour and texture. Stephen Leek is a Churchill Fellow and has received many national and international awards including the prestigious “Robert Edler International Choral Prize” for his contribution to the development of global choral music. Most recently he was awarded the APRA Australian Choral Work of the Year in 2014.  Leek was a Lecturer at the Queensland Conservatorium for 17 years and currently teaches the Masters Choral Direction Course at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. In 2012/13, he was the Artistic Director of the Shanghai Youth Choir; in 2015, Conductor of the Asia Pacific Youth Choir, and currently is Vice President of the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM) where he is active in numerous major choral projects around the world. Although currently residing in Northern Tasmania, Stephen Leek continues to pursue a hectic freelance lifestyle throughout the world.
